Cocoa Sourcing

We work with Kah Kow to source all of our cocoa at Barrio Chocolate. Kah Kow works with cocoa farmers in communities in the Dominican Republic to produce high quality cocoa. Kah Kow has also created an organization that develops programs and tasks for the farmers pertaining to sustainability, conservation, and health and safety. The ability to connect with chocolate makers in other countries makes a significant impact on the livelihoods of folks living throughout this region.

Crunchy Quinoa

The Crunch gets it’s name from the crunchy puffed quinoa folded into the chocolate. The Peruvian quinoa we use is certified organic and delicious. Did you know that quinoa is also packed full of protein, fiber, and iron to make it a little better for you? Just one of the many ways we’re being intentional in our chocolate.

Date Sugar

Several of our chocolate varieties contain date sugar, which brings a nice depth of caramel flavor to our chocolates! Date sugar is clean and nutritious, with large amounts of fiber and potassium and low on the glycemic index. Our date sugar comes from DATEible, a company working in North Africa to use dates that are dryer and not used for export. By drying out these dates further and grinding them into a powder, DATEible is able to increase the value of a product not utilized, bringing value to the communities they work in.
